Psychiatry that survives a Tampa work week

The most common reason people in Tampa Bay put off psychiatric care isn't cost or stigma. It's logistics. A downtown professional can't disappear for two hours mid-day. A nurse coming off nights at Tampa General isn't driving anywhere at 2 p.m. Someone in St. Pete or Brandon is looking at bridge or interstate traffic in both directions for what is, clinically, a twenty-five-minute conversation.

Video visits solve that specific problem. You block thirty minutes on your calendar, close your office door or sit in your car, and you're seen. The appointment is the appointment, not the appointment plus ninety minutes of driving.

You also get continuity. Rather than seeing whoever is available at a large group practice, you work with the same board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner every visit, someone who remembers your dose history, your side-effect trade-offs, and what your job actually demands of you.

What a Tampa telehealth visit looks like

You start with a request form rather than a public calendar: tell us what you need and our office comes back to you with times. Intake paperwork is then completed online through SimplePractice, our HIPAA-compliant EHR, so nothing eats into your appointment time.

The first visit is a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation: history, current symptoms, prior treatment and how it went, medical background, and your goals. If medication makes sense, we discuss options and trade-offs plainly, including the option of waiting, and send the prescription electronically to your pharmacy in Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, or wherever is convenient.

Follow-ups are 20–30 minutes, usually every two to four weeks while we're adjusting, then further apart once you're stable. Extended 40+ minute sessions are available when a visit needs more room: a rough stretch, a complex change, or therapy work alongside medication.

Conditions we treat

  • Anxiety and panic: including performance and workplace anxiety, and panic that shows up as chest tightness or shortness of breath.
  • Depression: from acute episodes to the long, low grind that never quite lifts.
  • ADHD: adult evaluation and ongoing management, common among professionals who compensated successfully for years until the workload outgrew the workarounds.
  • PTSD and trauma: trauma-informed care, including military and first-responder trauma.
  • Bipolar disorder: mood stabilization and careful medication monitoring.
  • Insomnia: particularly for shift workers and anyone whose sleep collapsed alongside their stress.

Who this is for in Tampa

Professionals downtown and in Westshore. Finance, law, tech, and healthcare administration all run on calendars that don't leave room for a midday clinic trip. A video visit fits in a lunch block or the half hour before your first meeting.

USF students, residents, and staff. Between the main campus and USF Health, tens of thousands of people are stacking coursework, clinical rotations, and jobs. Telehealth means your psychiatric care doesn't depend on which side of Fowler Avenue you're on that day, and it continues through breaks and rotations, as long as you're in Florida.

Military families and veterans. Tampa Bay's military community around MacDill AFB and the region's large veteran population face a particular set of stressors: deployment cycles, frequent moves, reintegration, and long waits for care. We accept VA CCN and CHAMPVA, see TRICARE patients as an out-of-network provider, and Faiza's work in Northwest Florida, one of the most heavily military regions in the country, means military life isn't something she has to have explained to her.

Healthcare workers. Tampa General, Moffitt, AdventHealth, BayCare: thousands of clinicians who know exactly what they'd tell a patient in their position and still haven't booked. A private video visit from a call room or a parked car is often the version that finally happens.

Anyone across the bay. St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, Lutz, Town 'n' Country: the bridge and the interstate stop mattering entirely.

Coverage

Insurance for Tampa telehealth

Accepted plans differ between our Navarre and Crestview offices. Check the page for the office you'll be seen at.

Our Navarre office accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, UMR, VA CCN, Ascension Smart Health, Curative, and CHAMPVA, and sees TRICARE patients as an out-of-network provider, a list that covers most Tampa Bay employers as well as the region's large military and veteran population.

Most carriers reimburse telehealth psychiatry at the same rate as an in-office visit. Self-pay options are available and billed the same as in-person care, with superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

Not all plans cover mental health services. Please check with your insurance provider for coverage and any out-of-pocket costs.

Common questions

Tampa telehealth FAQ

Do you take TRICARE for military families in Tampa?

Yes, as an out-of-network TRICARE provider. TRICARE Select works directly. With TRICARE Prime we can see you with a referral, but you would be responsible for the balance until you reach your deductible. VA CCN and CHAMPVA are accepted too. Coverage details vary by plan type and whether a referral or authorization is required, so it's worth a quick call to your plan before your first visit.

Can I do a video visit from my office?

Yes, as long as you have a private space and a stable connection. A closed office, a conference room, or your parked car all work. Please don't join from a moving vehicle.

Can you manage medication a previous psychiatrist started?

Usually, yes. Bring the names, doses, and roughly when you started each one, and a list of what's been tried before and how it went. We'll review it at your evaluation and continue, adjust, or change course together. Records from your prior provider are helpful but not required to get started.

Do you offer therapy, or only medication?

Both. Psychotherapy is available on its own or alongside medication management, with extended 40+ minute sessions when a visit needs more room. See services for details.

What happens during hurricane season if power goes out?

If you lose power or connectivity, contact us through the portal and we'll reschedule. No late-cancellation fee for a storm. If you need a prescription refill sooner because of an evacuation, message us and we can usually send it to a pharmacy wherever you've relocated inside Florida.
